Through this holistic approach, the foundation aims to empower young minds, instilling in them the values and skills necessary to thrive in all aspects of life.

With programs catering to youth aged 5 to 19, the JT Dorsey Foundation has established its presence in various vibrant locations across Pennsylvania. From the bustling streets of Coatesville to the historic charm of Harrisburg, the enchanting landscapes of Lancaster to the lively communities of Lebanon, the foundation's impact extends far and wide. Additionally, the foundation has spread its wings to the vibrant city of Pottstown and the bustling metropolis of Philadelphia, ensuring that its programs are accessible to as many young individuals as possible.

MISSION

Our mission at JTDF is to provide wellness education, physical activity, mentoring, leadership, employment training, and a safe space for under-resourced children to grow up.

VISION

  • Service 300 children from Harrisburg and Steelton in Soccer for Success

  • Provide a collaborative day camp for over 500 children.

  • The Foundation’s primary strategic goal is to increase our impact by serving over 1,300 vulnerable and at-risk children in PA in the next 24 months.

WHat our 2020 Study Shows

The study’s most important reminder for the JTDF is:

What we’re actually doing for the kids is more important than what we say we’re going to do for them!

In late 2019 and early 2020, the JTDF was the site for a research study conducted by Scott Weller, a PhD in Public Administration and adjunct instructor at Penn State Harrisburg. The study presented several findings based on interviews with the JTDF’s volunteers and observations at its sites.

The Results

First, Scott found concepts such as “programming & curriculum”, “help & serve = children”, “coaches & coaching”, and “soccer” are more than words in the JTDF’s mission and goals. These concepts are put into practice by its dedicated volunteers whose backgrounds help complement, support, and implement these practices.

Second, Scott concluded the JTDF continues to grow as an organization while maintaining high quality service delivery to its players and their families. The JTDF’s growth also increases its impact in the communities it serves and the soccer family nationwide. For example, another volunteer said:

“We do what's best for the kids…we take the methodology and stuff that we've developed and the curriculum that we've developed and share that with others so they can replicate it.”

“I’ve had the luxury of meeting some students that have successfully entered JT Dorsey Foundation’s programs and have graduated high school and are now productive members of society. They provided first hand testimonials of how impactful JT Dorsey Foundation’s mentorship was in overcoming adversity. I’ve met with their board members and am inspired by the passion all their volunteers have in making a difference in the community and in aiding these underprivileged youth.
